One line. One idea worth keeping.

Every day we take a single quote and write the piece behind it: where it came from, what it actually means and what to do with it. Read today's, search the whole archive, or save the ones you want to come back to.

Why a whole article for one quote

A quote on its own is a screenshot. It gets a nod, then it goes. What is usually missing is the part that makes it useful: who said it, what they were arguing with at the time, and what changes if you take it seriously for a week.

That is what these pieces are. Each one starts with a single line and works outwards into where it came from, what it actually claims, where it holds up in ordinary life and what you could reasonably do about it. They are written in house, one a day, and they are free to read.
